HISTORY OF BIO CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT
The undergraduate programme in Biochemistry was started in the year 1993-1994. Shift II Programme was introduced during the academic year 2007-2008. M.Sc Biochemistry was introduced in the academic year 2011-2012. The Ph.D programme was added both part time and full time mode from the academic year 2017-2018. At present there are 6 well qualified regular faculty members and 4 Guest lecturers and a laboratory assistant.
There are 2 Laboratories for B.Sc , M.SC and Ph.D research programmes. The infrastructure of the laboratories were well maintained with Equipment room, Preparation room and chemicals storage room which enables sufficient practical exposure for each and every student. There is one smart class room for training and Viva sessions for students.
The Association of Biochemistry is functioning well by organizing International and National level seminars, Exhibitions, paper and poster presentations to inculcate the current developments in the young minds. There is a health club and journal club functioning in the department which aims in periodical updates of latest innovations in medical field. The department has given good exposure to students about the functioning of various latest equipments, Animal house , production of pharmaceutical products etc., by taking the students to visit the industries such as Pasteur Institute, Coonoor, JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, National Institute of Food Technology and Entrepreunership Management, Thanjavur, and Central institute of Fisheries and Technolgy, Cochin. The health club is involved in psychological counselling for the college students.
